Something seriously wrong w. me?

I am 24 and for the past 10 days had a SEVERE sore throat which made it unable for me to swallow. I could barely drink water and I lost 7lbs which now makes me a tiny 97lbs total. I went to the doc and she tested me for strep which was negative. On the 5th day of being sick I went to the ER where they gave me a mono test that came back negative along with an IV. The next day I went back to the doc where she tested me for gonorreah of the throat which i am still waiting the results for. I have had shots of antibiotics, been on 4 or 5 different types of antibiotics, steroids, and painkillers and nothing has helped. any idea on what this might be?

You and your doctor(s) have taken the right steps towards eliminating what may be wrong, such as viral and bacterial infections. The last step, which you are waiting for, should clear that up too. If gonorrhea is not the cause, other reasons may be:

A sore throat that lasts longer than a week is often caused by irritants or an injuries, such as:

* Throat irritation from low humidity, smoking, air pollution, yelling, or nasal drainage down the back of the throat (postnasal drip).
* Breathing through the mouth when you have allergies or a stuffy nose.
* Stomach acid that backs up into the throat, which may be a symptom of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Although this often occurs with heartburn, an acid taste in the mouth, or a cough, sometimes a sore throat is the only symptom.
* An injury to the back of the throat, such as a cut or puncture from falling with a pointed object in the mouth.
* Chronic fatigue syndrome, a condition that causes extreme tiredness.

It may be a staphlococcol infection. You will just have to wait an see what your doctor tells you. Hope you feel better.

First I would sit down and make a list of everything you did prior to the out break for the last 30 days list what your alergic too.

Make a list of everyone you have come in contact with i.e. kissed or likewise for the past 90 days.

It sounds like an alergy, but the steroids would have reduced it. if it was strep the antibiotics would have reduced it.

My suggestion is make these two lists.(disclose everything you have done in the last 90 days relating to what you ate, kissed etc with your mouth

Then go see an ear, nose, and throat specialist. IF the STD tests come back negative.

Note the flu / cold that has been going around lasts for several weeks and my sore throat lasted a while until the cold was gone. There are people I know who have had the cold for over four weeks...

It sounds too weird.. and you have been to the doctors twice and no refurral.

It sounds VIRAL antibiotics don't tend to work on viruses. you may have to suck it up till the cold goes away if its not STD related.

If you smoke or smoked something resently you might want to disclose that aswell.

There are throat cancers, scaring and other serious stuff that would cause this as well but start small and go big meaning it looks like your going into the doctor question is are you telling them everything so they can diagnose you faster..
