My 4 year old daughter was diagnosed with Mono yesterday, how long should she stay out of school?

about 4 weeks ago she was diagnosed with Strep Throat, she was taking Penecillin x 10 days, after that she started with high fever and sore throat again, along with vomiting. She was hospitalized for 2 days, was given Rocephen and Ampacillin by IV. After she was released she was put on Omnicef for 10 days, 2 days after the antibiotics was finished she started with a low grade fever and c/o sore throat, also glands very swollen. She was given Amoxicillin at that time, 2 days later she started with a fever of 102, headaches, fatigue, and neck pain. She was sent to the lab for a Mono test, it was positive.

wow. thats young. i would keep her at home as much as possible because without efficient enough rest, the mono will take longer to run it's course. of course, everyone is different, so if you feel she's up to going to day care or school, by all means let her, but please have her refrain from rough play.
my son has chronci mono-it never resolves. his antibodies go up for months at a time, then down almost below what is considered normal.
there are days i don't even bother to get him up. i just let him sleep. other days, he will go to school, come home and sleep for 4 hours.
unfortunately, for my son there isn't much as far as successful treatment.

so let your baby rest all she needs to. if she complain of her left or right side hurting, she needs to see the doctor!

good luck!

4 yrs old needs to stay home and play and be a child why you make that poor thing go to school. mono depends sometimes like 6 weeks sometimes one week. is slow moving desease enjoy the time with her she get big fast enough.

I'm sorry your daughter has to deal with these unpleasant things. It seems like you would be wise to keep her out of class for at least 3 weeks, possibly 4. These websites seemed to have seemingly reputable and easy to understand info. Best of luck to her, and you. ;-)

Poor thing. Unfortunately it is difficult to say because everyone is different. The good thing is young children sometimes bounce back quicker than adults. I had mono when I was 22 and I missed 7 weeks of college. I was so so so sick and had to be hospitalized. My roommate got it at the same time and only missed one week. See what I mean? Just make sure she rests and gets plenty of fluids and just keep an eye on her. I would tell her school she will be out indefinitely. You will notice when she starts to feel better. Just make sure she takes it easy when she does return to school. Mono takes 18 months to fully leave your system. I hope she recovers quickly.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I would think she should stay out of school for at least a week, I suppose.

You'll know when it's safe to send her back when she's up and running and driving you crazy again. lol. I had mono when I was in Grade 3. Took me 7 months to get over it in total. I was taken to nurse's office 2 times each day for naps because I couldn't stay awake. But, each person is different. Your daughter may bounce back in a week, 2 weeks, or who knows. Best to ask your doctor, not yahoo answerers.

Well that would explain why the antiobiotics didnt work. she needs antivirals. Mono is a virus she was misdiagnosed the first time, how tragic. The hospital should admit her for treatment, she may be dehydrated and very weak. She needs iv fluids, antivirals and atleast an overnight hospital stay. dont let this child go back to school for atleast a week.

i was stuck with mono for 5 weeks in 2006 and missed school for those 5 weeks. ir was horrible. i suggest you stay home with her until she feels much much better.
