After surgery i was given a morphine IV drip.........? |
if i had no side effects to morphine in the IV drip, is it still possible that i would experience side effects if i took it in oral form like with MS-contin? In a situation where you are receiving Morphine in an IV drip, it is a very, very low dose given over a longer time. Yes, because in an iv form it goes directly into the bloodstream, but in pill form it has to pass through your stomach, and liver to be processed. it really depends on how long you were on the drip for. As for MS contin it can be really easy to get addicted. Follow your doctors advice carefully but dont be afraid to take your medicaion. when you want to come off gradually decrease your doseage over a few weeks and you shouldn't experience any side effects. Sure, you could have Gi side effects b/c it goes thru your stomach. Yes I can take IV, but not oral Not likely unless you are talking about morphine sulphate. You will not have a reaction of the oral med if you had it in an IV of morphine and didnt have a problem. If you were allergic to it you would have known it soon after the IV administration was given. |
