Are pumps required for infusions through central lines?

like regular iv solutions such as NS or LR can't find answer in INS books

No, not necessarily. In the olden days, there were no pumps, but central catheters were commonplace, too. I assume pumps are used mostly for reliable control of infusion rate and for safety.
