I need help breaking down my hospital bill?

We just got the bill for my husbands ER visit and I need some help breaking down what each line means. Mainly there is a charge that says "Level 5 ED W/Procedures 450" and "IV Infusion Ther/DX to 1 hr"
These are the two highest charges and I don't know what they mean.
Please help!

level 5 emergency department with procedures.. that means you were in the emergency room and he had procedures done (xrays and stuff like that)
intravenous infusion threrapy.. /diagnosis to 1 hour.. that means that he recieved iv fluids for an hour.. i am no sure why the diagnosis (dx) is in there..

Hi I am a medical biller if you give me the codes listed on your bill I can tell you why they are so high and what they mean

If you go back to the hospital you should be able to go to the budget or finance department and they will be able to help you understand what the charges mean.

I don't know, but Make sure to question your bill. I've been overcharged twice this year by the hospital. Unfortunately I'm beginning to think it wasn's a "mistake"

There should be a phone number on the bill for the billing or collections dept. Set down with the bill and call them. They can tell you - if the person who answers can't, then ask for a supervisor. If it seems excessive, ask for a supervisor and argue your point very tactfully. If you have insurance, make sure that they have all of the insurance information so they can file it correctly. If you don't have insurance, ask if they have any programs to assist youin paying for it. Many Catholic hospitals have a Catholic Charities program that you may be eligible for, for example.

You have received some excellent advice. Follow it. Studies have shown that there are many billing errors

Call the billing office at the hospital. They can explain all their charges. That is who you need to turn to first. Usually very nice people.

call the billing dept. There are codes on the bill they will know what each code means and they will explain it to you

No, not necessarily. In the olden days, there were no pumps, but central catheters were commonplace, too. I assume pumps are used mostly for reliable control of infusion rate and for safety.
