I take the depo, and I asked my doctor how long it takes for the hormones to take effect for birth control. She said 48 hours. So yes you can. BUT... there is always a chance of getting pregnant on birth control. Anyways, ignore the ignorant folks on here. Thats good that that you have both been checked. HAVE FUN!!!

No hormonal contraceptive will prevent the spread of STD's if that is what you're asking. If there is ANY doubt that he might carry an STD, USE A CONDOM!!!

As for the shot, you should have been injected during your menstrual cycle (while you were bleeding) so that you would be protected immediately upon completion of your period against pregnancy. Otherwise, you will need to use backup for at least 2 weeks. Talk to your doc if you have ANY questions.
