IV bruise? |
I had an EGD and a Bravo pH study done on Friday. The nurses used the IV method to sedate me. I've had plenty of IVs done before, but the injection site hurts a lot. It doesn't look like it's bruised, but feels horrible when I stretch it. It feels like elastic is being stretched inside of me. It has never felt like this before. Not really that infrequent, the needle probably was not put in/pulled out completely straight. well the nirse might have hit a vein, this happened to my stepdad and his arm was bruised looking at the spot. Sometimes when a nurse sticks an IV in you they hit some muscle tissue. It will take a couple of days for your body to repair, but that is why it is hurting. Depending on what site is used - it could be some tissue in the area has been traumatized. It should be OK in a day or so. If it swells or turns red/black&blue, or continues to hurt seek a doctor's opinion. Otherwise remember this: veins are supposed to KEEP the blood IN the body. It is ABNORMAL to let the blood out. Therefore, your body has been through an abnormal occurance. It will take a bit of time to get back to normal. If it doesn't feel like it usually does then you should have it looked at by your Doctor. You could have some kind of infection or injury.I would play it safe. Put a hot pack on it. It'll heal on its own over a few days. |
