Can morphine be given to stroke victims for pain control?

Ssevere headache during a cerebral bleed. Is morphine the drug of choice and by IV injection? The patient is 65 years old.

Yes, morphine can be given to a stroke victim for pain control, as long as it is not contraindicated for use due to any other health conditions (respiratory problems/difficulties, pancreatic disease, renal failure, increased intracranial pressure, or severe head injury to name a few). Obviously, you will want to consult any and all medical professionals involved in the patient's care prior to making any treatment decisions.

To answer your second question, morphine given via IV is the best route of administration. IV is the quickest as the drug will go directly into the vein.

I hope that this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Not unless really supervised by a very qualified doctor ..morphine fall in the opiate family who are repistory supressors so if he gets to much he could develope problems with breathing..there are other drugs out there made especialy for migraine headaches that get right to the point and don't mess with the respitory system..good luck and double check all meds the doctor prescribes..they are very busy and sometimes make big major mistakes..

Please call the dr. of this patient to find out for sure for this particular person.
