Rocephin by IV-Is the needle big?

Yesterday I went to get an IV with Rocephin-my fist iv ever

I am usually good with needles

First they talked to me like a baby
Then they gave me a "numbing" shot

When the went to put in the IV I couldn't watch but my flip flops went flying in the air--I refused the pain was so bad !!!!!!!!

So my question is is Am I being a baby or is it a really big needle?
I didn't look...

Thanks

WELL, think of it like this Have you been through childbirth?
I had, and I was still scared to no end, but it goes pretty fast if you close your eyes and DO NOT LOOK at the needle. I was somewhat lucky to have a great nurse who kept talking to me normally.

Yeah, it's kind of big, but not some monster needle-just enough to fit the iv-pic line through it and up the vein...just make sure to use advil/ib and heating pad for first few days...After 2-3 days max. you won't even notice it. It's a piece of cake...

And, if you've suffered enough, trust me, this is nothing and seems to help EVENTUALLY (I'M only 1/2 way through my 56 day therapy, so...who knows what could pop up again a few months/years down the road.

It's worth it. You're worth it...and Lyme patients like us are forced to be BRAVE even when you weren't looking to be...We have no choice...we endure physical, emotional, mental anguish and are generallly humiliated by physicians -the ones WHO ARE NOT THE SPECIALISTS!

Anyway, take it easy, get it !!!

Let me know how you are. It's easy, close your eyes, it takes, literally , maybe one minute, and then the rest is nothing...

Good luck my fellow epidemic carrier!

Love,

Christine

the needle is kinda big its bigger than one that you would get a flu shot thru but stop being a big baby and take your meds it only hurst for a little bit you will be fine

i'm the same way. i wanna pass out when i see a needle. they always have to give me the childrens size needles. mostly they will give you a big needle if you can handle it.

Different gauges of needle are used for different purposes. The gauge used for you was probably 18-20 gauge. This needle is very small (think of the thickness of an earring post...that is 18 gauge). The 20 gauge is smaller than that.
The reason it probably hurt you was because of the site they put it in (the backs of the hands are very sensitive), because the local anaesthetic didn't work, or because the alcohol from the swab got into the wound.
I hope you feel better soon :)
