Needle for IV? |
i have to get a needle is inserted in my hand so i can come home and not stay in the hospitals for the med i need. but everytime i have to get a iv done it never work then i have to stay in the hospitals for the meds that i need. My question is there any thing i can do before i have to get the iv done,so i can come home. i had it in my foot that where i have to stat in the hos. because i want home onetime with it in my foot and it came out so i had to go back and stay in the hos.they said that if it in my hand i can do more thing. like got to the store.ect often if you are dehydrated, needle placement will be difficult because your veins will not be full of hydrating fluids. therefore, my recommendation would be to make sure you drink enough water before your appointment. have they considered placing a pic-line. it is like a catheter inserted into your arm and is used for iv medications. it should only be used for short periods of time as they pose additional infection risk, but work well as long as it is taken care of properly. My sil had a main line put in her neck and hooked herself up to it daily to get whatever she needed. It was a minor surgial proceedure done right in the Dr office. Worked well for a month or two then had to have it moved to another spot. Good Luck okay, i do agree w/ her about veins are harder to get when your dehydrated..but some people just are hard sticks..but really other then being hydrated there isnt anything you can do. - my question is does it have to be in your hand or can they go to your arm? This maybe hard to believe but have they thought about your feet? We do this a lot when we cant find anywhere to stick patients in the hand or arm and really need to get an Iv on them.. There is line which is usually placed by a radiologist or a specially trained nurse called a PIC line. It usually goes into the upper inside arm just above the elbow and can stay in for months if needed. Ask someone about having one if you have problems retaining a regular IV cannula. I am the hardest stick in the book! When I went in for Septoplasty (for a deviated septum), the nurses tried FOURTEEN different times before the anesthiologist came in and told me he would put me under before trying the viens. Apparently veins 'pop up' while you're sleeping. Could this be an option? Although I will say, they told me it took him four tries and twenty minutes to get a line, and I woke up with an IV in my foot, just in case the other one did not hold. |
