What are the two appropriate sizes of needles on IV's for infants? You wouldn't want to go any larger than a 25G. I mean why would you need to know this? Depend on why you're performing the venipuncture. If all you need is a blood sample for the lab or to infuse fluids such as Hartmann's Solution, a 25-gague butterfly is fine. Ya wanna infuse sturdier stuff such as lipids, you'll want the pediatrician to come and place a more substantial line. |
