Amino Acid Therapy for alcoholism or substance abuse issues?

Does anyone have any experience with this newer treatment. It is based on replenishing lacking brain chemicals which are causing a "reward deficiency" . The Amino acids are given either through IV or orally. Is this medically accepted? More importantly does it work to prevent relapses? Thanks!

I worked with this therapy for a year. The patients still required a medical detox, the time frame for withdrawal tremors was too narrow for Amino acid therapy to be safe.
The patients who followed the South Beach diet did far better than those on IV amino therapy. The IV therapy has to be repeated every 3-6 months to be effective. Use of Naltrexone to help cease cravings and cognitive behavior modification help. Sleep will be the biggest complaint but is easily resolved with several methods.

I've never heard of it but I've been in recovery for six years and ironically chose to go the fitness route. I've used amino acids for protein synthesis. If a by product is relapse prevention I would be amazed. The best way to stay sober/clean is not to take that first drink/drug. Find a support group , a sponsor , and a good 12 step program.
