Amino Acid Therapy for alcoholism or substance abuse issues? |
Does anyone have any experience with this newer treatment. It is based on replenishing lacking brain chemicals which are causing a "reward deficiency" . The Amino acids are given either through IV or orally. Is this medically accepted? More importantly does it work to prevent relapses? Thanks! I worked with this therapy for a year. The patients still required a medical detox, the time frame for withdrawal tremors was too narrow for Amino acid therapy to be safe. I've never heard of it but I've been in recovery for six years and ironically chose to go the fitness route. I've used amino acids for protein synthesis. If a by product is relapse prevention I would be amazed. The best way to stay sober/clean is not to take that first drink/drug. Find a support group , a sponsor , and a good 12 step program. |
