Why do i have to take a laxative before an ivp?

Why do i have to take a laxative before an ivp?

So your organs show up clearly in the x ray, and no 'material' is blocking the view

I would say Icee is right Just go to Yahoo put in ivp and you can read all about the whole procedure and exactly what to expect.

Icee and Ray are right! The laxative is to clear your bowel so the images of your kidneys are not blocked by the contents of your bowels! Ie--poop!! and air!
Good luck! I hope your tests are negative!!

so that the fecal matter in your intestines can go out and leave the field clear for the necessary parts to be visualised radiographically.
the basic indication for nephrolithiasis(renal or uretereric or bladder stones)
other than that,no known indication
