I'm having right side abdominal pain at night - what could it be?

4 weeks ago I began to experience right side abdomonial pain. A urinalysis revealed blood & bacteria & I was diagnosed with a kidney infection. I took Levaquin for 10 days. Symptoms improved but did not completely go away. After 2 weeks another urinalysis indicated blood but no infection; an x-ray showed kidney stones. I was referred to a urologist & had an ivp. After reviewing the x-ray & ivp results, the urologist advised that I had a kidney stone that was too big to pass & recommended lithotripsy...but this kidney stone is on the LEFT side...not the source of my pain! The pain that have been feeling has progressed & is occurring every night. I am virtually painfree during the day...but after about 4-5 hours of sleep...the pain awakens me from a sound sleep. After resting in a reclining position for 1-2 hours the pain subsides. I have made no correlation to eating habits & my OB/GYN ruled out anything in the pelvis...not surprising as the pain is up higher under the ribcage.

Instead of posting questions you should be directing this to your urologist. You cannot get a diagnosis online.

maybe its your appendix get it checked quick!

That sounds like your gall bladder, I had pain there and had an ultrasound and it showed i had cholesterol deposits in there.... which is practically the first stage before gall stones, but I was advised if i eat less fatty foods they would most likely dissapear over time! Do you feel it more intensly after you have eaten a heavy meal or a fattier meal? It could also be reffering pain from your kidney infection, just like with tonsilitis most people get an ear ache and show no infection, its reffering pain. Check it out with your doctor to make sure!
Good Luck

Abdominal pain is very hard to diagnose. Owing to the setup of the nervous system in the abdomen, the problem may be in a very different place from where you feel the pain.
It could be possibly be gall bladder pain, which usually radiates around to the back.
I once had chronic right upper quadrant pain, but it came from trapping gas in the hepatic flexure of the colon. It stopped as soon as I quit having six donuts and three cups of coffee for breakfast.
Good luck!

Pain radiates. I have had recurrent kidney stones for he past twenty years. I have never been able to pinpoint where the stone is. Also, if there is one stone, there are probably more. These would be small though. I had IVP's trying to detect stones I knew were there, but to no avail. Once I went through the whole procedure, and the urologist showed me the results immediately. The x-rays showed that the blood flow was being blocked by "something," but that something was undetectable. All they could do was infer its existence. I don't think they would want to do an expensive CAT scan on something whose existence can be easily inferred.

You have gallstone(s). I had symptoms for 2 years: bloating, fullness, and pain. In the emergency room, they did a CT Scan and found a very large gallstone. I had surgery to remove my gallbladder and now I'm fine. Check out this site: http://www.gallbladderattack.com/questio...
