Tomography of the kidneys - IVP?

How do you determine the depth of the kidney for the tomo. I have heard different theories, i.e., measure and divide by 3.
Need resources to back up answer.

On a standard sized person I woul start at 10cms and go from there.
It's pretty much a judgement call that comes with experience.
