Question about Mylan generic fentanyl patches?

I have recently switched from the name brand (Duragesic) fentanyl patches to the Mylan generic fentanyl patches. Unlike Duragesic, the Mylan patches are solid- there's no gel reservoir. I was told (not by a medical professional) that these can be cut in half if I feel that I may need less pain control on specific days. Could someone please confirm this? Thank you.

OK, update. First of all, you can't extract any fentanyl from the Mylan generic patches. As I said, it is a solid patch with no liquid medicine. Second of all, I clearly stated that the person I heard this from was NOT a medical professional, therefore, it was NOT someone in my doctor's office. I would not like any answers dealing with drug abuse. That is not the issue here. The stigma attached to prescribed narcotics, while, in some cases accurate, can not be extended to everyone who needs these very effective drugs, and I find it offensive that any of my friends or family members would "break into my house" to steal my medication. I asked a very specific question. If you don't have an answer, then please keep your opinions to yourself. Thanks.

The prescribing info per the Mylan website clearly states that the patches should never be cut.

I would also place a call to your pharmacy and ask this same question to hear it from someone else.
Also, inform your Doctor since someone is his/her office is passing along harmful or even deadly information to other patients.

Very important - keep your extra patches locked up where no one can get them. And don't tell people. People steal these, extract the fentanyl and shoot it up. Many die doing this.
