If generic antidepressants are the same as name brand, why do they keep making the name brand?

It would seem to me that only a fool would pay 10 times more for a name brand drug. So how is it that Pfizer and other manufacturers which have lost their patent rights continue to keep selling the name brand?

Here are my theories:
a) Brand loyalty
b) The name brand has better inactive ingredients which may make the difference in the way the body absorbs it, hence its efficacy
c) It's a Money Making Machine
d) The patient is crazy and doesn't know any better

For me, the answer is b). I realized after months of taking generic zoloft, it wasn't working as well. It felt like I was going through withdrawal. I had been on name brand Zoloft for 7 years.

Shame on our government and Pharma for making it harder for those people who need the name brand but are forced to pay more to get it in America.

If anyone knows where to slam this in the face of the above, let me know. Or, if you have experienced the same thing and have actually gotten the real drug cheaper (Canada?).

The news organizations are finally getting wind.
It isn't always old people and crazies.

You would be suprised how many people insist on name brands. They feel that generic aren't as good or don't work as well. They compare it to buying generic food which in a lot of cases tastes substandard. Especially older people prefer the name brand and are willing to pay more for it.

Pharmecutial companies are showing their soulness nature these days.. they hide research that can hurt sales and don't seem to care about the health of those they serve... Policies like that mean their influence will decline in the years to come, perheps in favor of more natural ways to solve problems.
