A questions about pharmacies? |
Are pharmacies able to share information with one another? Does the HIPA act pertain to them also? I'm just wondering because you hear all of the tme about people trying to fill bogus prescriptions. I wonder if pharmacies could do more to try and stop the prescription abuse problem. If they are through the same company, they often have computer systems linking them. Like at Walgreens, you can get your prescription filled at a different store than usual. HIPPA does apply to pharmacies, though, and they couldn't legally share info about patients with other pharmacies unless it is required to do their job (for example, if a person wants to transfer their prescription). |
