Do you use a pulse oximeter on your child?

My 3 yr old has asthma that is triggered by the cold virus. The last couple of times I have taken him in for his cold symptoms, the Ped found his oxygen levels to be low. Since he seemed to be OK other than a runny nose and cough, I did not know this. Has anyone gotten permission from their Ped to use a pulse oximeter on their child? If so, what brand did you buy?

you can use one without a presctiption, you do not even need to ask the doctor for permission...

here is where you can go to pick the right one:

You do not need a prescription to buy a pulse oximeter, you can even check out the auctions on eBay. However, if your 3 year old does not use home oxygen which does require a prescription ( medical oxygen) , checking his saturation/ oxygen levels may not be useful for treating his asthma . One would expect a lower SpO2 ( saturation) with an asthma flare up and if the pediatrician found the level to be unacceptable, your son should have had medical intervention in ER or possible hospital admission. It is much more effective to teach him how to do peak flows and keep a diary, adjust his medications as needed, learn what triggers his asthma symptoms and address nutrition and environmental issues.
