I got in a motor scooter accident. The scab is itching.?

Its been 3 weeks. My parents say if it itches its healing... Is that true? My friend and I were riding my scooter, and she drove into the cement and i rolled into the grass, an scraped my knee on the cement. Once it leaked yellow pus, but It is still itchy. Its not serious, I don't think. Do I just put cream on it? Please, don't scare me.

Sometimes it doesn't itch if I don't think about it. It has another little scarb around it. The big scab is about 1 inch long, 1 cm wide, it is tight and redish pink around the edges, pink in the middle.

If it's itching, it's healing. Don't scratch it! Don't peel off the scab either. It will come off on it's own once the wound is completely healed.

If it is no longer leaking or bleeding and there are no red streaks around the wound, it's fine. You can apply neosporin once or twice a day. Cover it with a loose bandaid so air can continue to get to it.

Once it has healed completely, you can apply vitamin E cream to reduce any scarring. Typically, scarring from minor wounds such as scrapes fades on it's own.

Scabs often get itchy, and yes, it happens when they are healing. It's hard to know what to advise you to do as I do not know how bad the scab is, or if it is still open. If there is no redness, swelling or pus, and if it has completely closed over, you are probably fine to assume it is well on its way to healing properly and can apply some cream to it. Try a Vitamin E cream to assist the healing process. Macro Vitamin E cream springs to mind as a good one, if it is available where you are.

As long as the area around the scab isn't warm & you don't have a fever, just putting an anti-bacterial cream on your scab should be fine.

Yes, it means the skin is healing. Itching is a good sign that you are on the way to recovery. I would recommend NEOSPORIN on it at least once a day. If it is beyond the bleeding/cracking stage, leave it open to the air when you put the Neosporin on it. If not, apply Neosporin once a day and cover it up for a few days until the cracking and splitting stops. Good luck!!
