How can i hear the best from a stethoscope?

i am training to be a nurses assistant, i have to learn to take blood pressure. The problem is that i can't hear that good out of the stethoscope. I have to use a certain stethoscope for school, i have one of my own i can hear out of. But the one that the school gave me seems to be a piece of junk. I had my nurse teacher hear from it, she said she couldn't hear that good from it either. The school won't let me buy another one because they have short supply. I would like to use my own that i can hear out of. Anyone ever have a problem like this? Maybe its broken or something.

It could a problem with the ear pieces, the tubing or even the diaphragm. Take the school scope to the powers that be. Let that person hear (or not hear) what you do. Either they'll provide you with another scope or allow you to use your own. By the way, scopes don't have to be expensive to work well. And for your purposes you have absolutely no need for a cardiology scope. I'm on my second Littmann and I buy only Littmann. I have the Lightweight II SE and it cost me $45 reduced from $57. Can you order a new one from outside the school? I gave my sister a Littman Cardiology III stethoscope. They aren't cheap, but work well. The really cheap one's usually don't work too well.

Try pressing the metal together with the thumb and finger to press it closer in your ears. It could also be the hard plastic tips on the ends. See if you can get some rubber ones to replace them. Tap the stethescope when you put it in your ears to see how loud it is.
