How long does it take to recuperate from hip replacement surgery. Mine was 5/23.Iill have pain, use walker.?

I have not advanced to walking alone or withcane. I have to use walker and the pain is very bad. My surgery was 5/23 andI did very well. I try to take small walks several times a day but very painful. I dry short distances also. Will I ever walk normal again?I have to have the other hip and a knee replaced but I'm not sure now.X rays are good.

I've had both hips replaced in separate surgeries several months apart. While each person and procedure will advance a bit differently, with physical therapy (mine was outpatient, 2-3 times a week until about the 8th week post-op. Even my two hips recovered diferrently from each other; I was on my feet and walking without aids after 2 months for that one. The first was a bit more difficult, probably partly because I still had a bad hip to deal with.
If you haven't been given a Rx for physical therapy, ask for it. It sounds as if you would benefit. Walking is fine but there are additional exercises that can zero in on weak muscles. Remember, your muscles were stretched during surgery and it takes time for them to regain tone and strength. My Dr. told me that I can gain strength for up to a year after surgery.
If you still have a bad hip and a bad knee, it's probably no wonder that you are still having difficulty.

I'm surprised your doctor didn't order you any physical therapy. Months after my dad's hip replacement he was walking on his own. Not sure how many months afterward, but I saw him ten months later and you really couldn't even tell he'd had the surgery. He had physical therapy after his surgery. I know it helps a great deal.
