For folks in wheelchairs: What is the most challenging aspect of living in a wheelchair?

I had my leg amputated last year and have been in a manual wheelchair since then. (My prosthesis isn't fitting properly and I am having delays in my insurance coverage to change that.) My finances are very limited.

What are some things I need to know about living in a wheelchair that an average person wouldn't know. Any tips on staying healthy and fit?

Any fun ideas to help make it more joyfull? Any practical tips on getting around and taking things from room to room.

How to stay comfortable. I live in it most of the time.

Thanks in advance for your kind support. :)

luvs, :)

I am an amputee (result of traffic accident.) I don't know where you live so it is hard to give advice on what's available. Swimming is your best bet for keeping fit. A table on wheels that has sides (nothing falls off in transit) Keep bandaging your stump, eventually the swelling will go down. If you can eventually walk, forget the pain and realise the gain! I have been upright for 24yrs now. It took three years for my compo to pay for the accident and my prosthesis, if you need more advice email me. I am in Australia! There is a free limb scheme here.
